Dental implants

Before: the failing front tooth
Right after surgery: the implant crown in place

A missing tooth, replaced to last

An implant is a small titanium post placed in the bone to replace the root of a tooth. Once healed in, it carries an abutment (the connector) and a crown. It suits adults missing one or more teeth; your diagnosis shows whether your bone and health allow it. At Dentcof in Timișoara (Iulius Town), one implant tooth with a Neodent implant costs €1,500 – €1,750 in total: implant, abutment and ceramic crown.

  1. The implant placed through a surgical guide made from the design

    01 / 03

    Placed where the design says

We design the final tooth first, plan the implant around it on your 3D scan and print a surgical guide. The guide places the implant where the crown needs it: surgery is more precise and less invasive, with a lower risk near nerves.

  2. The gum shaped around the implant while it heals

    02 / 03

The gum shaped as it heals

Once the implant is in, a temporary tooth or healing piece shaped like the final tooth guides the gum as it heals. The gum takes the contour the final crown needs, so the result looks like a natural tooth.

  3. The custom abutment and the crown made on it

    03 / 03

A crown that shapes the gum

Our lab designs the abutment and crown from the same plan as the implant. Their form guides how the gum heals around the new tooth. Their fit decides how it works, and how easily it can be cleaned, over the years. We match the crown's shape, colour and surface to your neighbouring teeth, small irregularities included.

Bone when needed, soft tissue almost always

We take extra care of the tissue around an implant, because it decides how well the result holds up over the years. Bone is rebuilt when your 3D scan shows it is needed; the soft tissue is reinforced in almost every case. The surgeon and the dentists who restore the implant plan this together, from the same design of the final tooth, so the gum heals around the final tooth shape from the start.

The implants we use

We place Straumann and Neodent implants. Both come from the Straumann Group, the world's largest dental implant maker, with decades of clinical research behind its systems. They are used by clinics worldwide, so parts and service remain available for the many years an implant is in place. Straumann is the group's original Swiss line, and Neodent its more accessible one. Which one we recommend depends on your diagnosis: your bone, the position of the tooth, the final restoration and your budget. Your written plan shows the option we recommend and the price of each.

Risks and limitations

Every treatment has possible side effects. Here is what you should know before deciding. We go through your own risks at the consultation.

Possible risks and side effects

  • Swelling, bruising and mild pain for a few days after surgery
  • Infection or slower healing, more likely in smokers and with uncontrolled diabetes
  • In rare cases the implant does not integrate with the bone and has to be replaced
  • Inflammation around the implant (peri-implantitis) if hygiene and check-ups are neglected
  • Temporary or, rarely, lasting numbness when implants are placed near a nerve; 3D planning reduces the risk

When it may not be suitable, or needs extra care

  • Uncontrolled diabetes or other conditions that impair healing
  • Heavy smoking (raises the risk of failure)
  • Certain bone medications (e.g. some bisphosphonates) or recent head-and-neck radiotherapy: discuss with us first
  • Growing jaws in children and teenagers

This is general information; your diagnosis comes from an examination. Your doctor will explain the risks that apply to you before you agree to any treatment.

Dental implants: frequently asked questions

What is a dental implant?+

A small titanium post placed in the bone to replace the root of a missing tooth. It carries a crown made for you and works much like a natural tooth.

Does getting an implant hurt?+

Usually very little during surgery, which is done under local anaesthesia. Swelling, bruising and mild pain for a few days afterwards are normal. Treatment under sedation is possible with our partner clinic, Medical Town.

How long does the process take?+

It depends on your bone and gum. Some cases allow the implant and a provisional tooth at the same visit; others need healing time between steps. You get the timeline in writing with your plan.

Can I get a tooth immediately after the implant is placed?+

Sometimes. When the implant is stable enough, a provisional tooth can be fixed straight away (immediate loading). When stability or healing is a concern, we stage the treatment, because the long-term result comes first.

What if I've lost bone in the area?+

It can often be rebuilt. Bone loss is common after a tooth is lost. A bone graft before or during implant placement restores the support, and your 3D scan shows whether you need one.

How long do implants last?+

It depends on planning, health and care. With good planning and regular maintenance, implants typically last many years. Bone quality, hygiene, general health and smoking all play a part, and in rare cases an implant does not integrate and has to be replaced.

What does it cost?+

With a Neodent implant, a single implant tooth costs €1,500 – €1,750 in total: the implant (€650), the abutment (€200) and a ceramic crown (€650 – €900). Bone or gum grafts are added only if your diagnosis shows they're needed. With a Straumann implant and abutment the total is higher. Treatment can be paid in installments. You get the exact total in writing before treatment starts. See the full breakdown.

Who performs the surgery and prosthetic work?+

A team put together for your case. The dentists who place and restore the implant and our lab technicians work from the same design, at every step.
